In which page 50 heralds the introduction of the one and only Tifa Lockhart! I guess this means I’ll have to learn how to draw women now, since the sausage fest has finally been broken up!
Okay, here are all the drawings I got done today, all scanned and still illegible as ever. *sigh*
But yeah, TIFA~!!!!!! And drawing her without references and little experience and only relying on my memory of how she looks isn’t fun, so expect a better version when I ink it.

I will be happy if I never have to draw Vincent’s gun again. That said, I think this turned out AWESOME! Thank goodness for all the reference images floating around, because these weapons are a NIGHTMARE to draw.
For those who haven’t heard, Gunsmoke in Gaia is my ongoing crossover comic between Trigun Maximum and Final Fantasy VII, set AFTER the conclusion of Trigun Maximum. If you’re now wondering what Wolfwood is doing here, I encourage you to read and find out: [link]
My comic is now approaching 50 pages, and I decided to take a little time and do some promotional art for it.Oh man this look really epic! And YAY for buff Tifa! :D
Thank you! Yes, Tifa is one hell of a fighter, so it stands to reason that she’d be more muscular than AC would have us believe. xD

Because I wanted to. Yes, Vash has some of the DoC addons equipped to his gun.

This one, too, now that you have the context of the storyboards I’ve posted so far. There’s still more between the existing storyboards and this part, but I’ve ALMOST closed the gap! And there will be more after this, too.
Pretty funny to think that I’ve actually managed to draw this much and that I’m actually reaching ANY kind of pre-existing story point goal.
I know it goes against everything they teach you, but all my best work is done spontaneously without planning anything out. Often times, I don’t even plan my PANELS one step ahead. I didn’t even think to bring Aerith into the story even when I was drawing Vincent casting Life2. It wasn’t until I got to that panel that the idea struck me, but it WORKS.
Same goes for Unlikely Heroes. I planned NONE of it out, except for deciding which things I wanted to explain about the world and the characters. Everything else literally was created on the spot while I wrote it.
And yet, when I try to plan out my stories ahead of time, I lose momentum (and interest) long before I get more than a couple hundred words written. :<
It’s why I consider myself a good AND terrible writer simultaneously. I can crank out good stuff on occasion, but I have no CONTROL over it.

The top panel is actually different from the original sketch. This is the inked version of the colored one I posted yesterday! Mostly, I’m posting this because the relevant panels are all on one page now.
A synopsis can be found here.
Well, Second Chance turned into a crossover suddenly.
This is based on my Second Chance timeline, which is based on the Trigun Maximum manga. That’s why Vash’s hair is black. If you haven’t read the manga (you poor thing!), I highly suggest you do so. The anime is a candle to the sun in comparison to the manga. The anime was good, but it’s simply outclassed by its source material. The original wins, in this case.
I’m going to redo these, most likely, as there are elements in the synopsis that I hadn’t yet incorporated when these were drawn.
Vincent Valentine leads a confused Vash the Stampede and Nicholas D. Wolfwood out of the Forgotten City after he found them while investigating the strange energy spike caused by their arrival. Getting ambushed by Vlakorados certainly isn’t high on Vincent’s list of favorite pastimes, but the encounter just beyond Bone Village is a good chance for him to learn about these newcomers through observation. Cid dropped Vincent off in the area, and they are on their way to meet him. From there, they will head for Edge. Vincent normally wouldn’t waste energy on random strangers, but he can sense that something about Vash is distinctly OFF.
I just realized that I retrotactively made my Vincent-> Tales of -> Trigun folder hierarchy MAKE SENSE. Well, except for the Tales Of part. STILL.
Anyway. Here’s a compilation of all the Trigun/FFVII crossover madness I’ve sketched so far.
I SHALL revise these, because it’s actually gonna have a PLOT and stuff.
The short version:
~
Vash rips a hole in space-time in a desperate attempt to save Wolfwood’s life. He succeeds, but they end up stranded in an unfamiliar place. And it is VERY obvious that they are on a different world, since their homeworld consists of only ONE biome: sandy, barren desert.
Vash and Wolfwood show up around the City of the Ancients and are weeeeirded out. And bloody. Well, Vash is bloody. Using his powers at this point (when his hair has completely become black) is dangerous to him, and has adverse effects on his body.
The environment is really alien to them, but still barren. Fortunately, the distortion could be seen for miles, and Cid happened to be flying over nearby.
Vincent goes down to investigate, sees the two, heals them, weirding out Vash, who thought he heard whispers when the magic was washing over him.(materia being condensed memories from mako, after all). Cid can’t just park the airship down in the forest, so they have to walk out (Vincent dropped down in a cutscene that was decidedly less wacky than Dirge of Cerberus).
They encounter some monsters on the way and freak out, since Gunsmoke/No Man’s Land is a barren wasteland and the only hostile indigenous life would be the sand worms. Vlakorados are NASTY and manage to ambush them. Vash takes a hit before he recovers from his shock. Fortunately, it only took off his gun arm and a slice of his coat. Vincent shows off his awesome magic skills. Gravity spells and poison are flashy AND effective against Vlakorados. Vincent is concerned when Vash and Wolfwood are baffled by the existence of magic, and decides to bring them with him. Perhaps it is the supernatural spirits dwelling within him, but he can sense something STRANGE about these newcomers.
Vincent leads them out around the Bone Village area and to the airship. Cid is highly entertaining. Wolfwood finally bums a cigarette off of him and gets less cranky. Sand is getting everywhere. They fly back to edge. Reeve is busy, and Tifa is probably the next person to talk to after Reeve or Cid (who are both busy with WRO stuff), because while she’s not in charge of any big divisions of anything, she’s definitely the one with the level head (compared to Cloud) and comes up with good ideas
So…
To 7th Heaven it is!
Vincent walks in trailed by two OTHER gunmen even taller than HE is, but Tifa sees blood and dismembered limbs and instantly goes into protective mode, helped by Vash’s demeanor, so she’s more inclined to listen.
Vash and Wolfwood are cautious, since they are clearly on a different planet entirely and it’s unlikely that their story would be believed. The lack of a second sun in the sky is a pretty clear indicator that this isn’t just a time travel accident, but an altogether different world.
Eventually Vash will be drawn to the old church in the ruins of Midgar. Ever since Vincent’s spell, he’s been feeling a strange PRESENCE. His inherent OTHER-ness, being a Plant and not a Human, have attuned him to the energies and forces within the world. The Lifestream is there, at the back of his mind.
It’s never really explained in the manga or anime, but it has been implied at points that Vash is a telepath. Upon reaching the church (perhaps with Cloud and Wolfwood in tow), he is immediately drawn to the spring.
Upon touching the water, energy flows into him- a pure force that shocks his system and opens channels, beginning a healing process that affects his Gate rather than his body. His hair becomes dusted with gold and Wolfwood gets worried when Vash’s eyes begin to glow.
He briefly sprouts feathers until he can get a grip on things, but not before Cloud sees something like a wing.
Vash is oblivious to all of this, kneeling at the water’s edge as Aerith begins to speak.
Underneath it all, Vash feels an alien consciousness begin to awaken, seeping through the lifestream like a poison.
