It’s BOSS TIME! This is what I had envisioned for Vincent Valentine’s transformation once the “curse” progressed too far. In Kingdom Hearts, when a person’s Heart is lost or consumed by darkness, the darkness FROM their heart takes the form of a Heartless creature. The greater the darkness in their Heart, the more powerful the Heartless will be. The leftover empty shell of their body becomes a Nobody as well, but that wasn’t revealed until AFTER the first Kingdom Hearts game.
Vincent would be the result of one of the experiments “Ansem” and his assistants were working on while researching the Heartless in Hollow Bastion. The darkness was planted in his arm (whether this was intentional or not is unknown), and it has slowly spread and begun to consume him. By the beginning of the game, he is already almost out of time. When the darkness reaches and fully consumes his heart, it drives him mad but doesn’t destroy his body, thanks to the nature of the experiment.
Hades, fed up with the failed contracts to kill Hercules, decides to intervene and fill Vincent with dark power. If he could force Vincent to obey him in such a state, he would be a much more powerful tool than an apathetic mercenary. Unfortunately, the plan backfires. The dark energy is beyond Hades’ or Vincent’s control, and it devours him fully, turning him into a fearfully powerful Heartless.
Vincent’s Heartless bears a striking resemblance to Galian Beast, his first Limit Break in Final Fantasy VII. However, as in Dirge of Cerberus, it stands erect like a man, and the tattered remnants of Vincent’s outfit adorn its body. This, combined with Vincent’s wings, mean that Vincent’s Heartless looks remarkably like a Gargoyle, from the Disney television series.
Sora and Cloud are able to defeat Vincent’s Heartless with Hercules’ help. Fortunately, because Vincent’s body was merely transformed and not destroyed, the Keyblade is able to restore him once Sora successfully purges the Darkness from his body.
Without his wings and demon hand, Vincent and Cloud return to Hollow Bastion to be reunited with the rest of their friends in Kingdom Hearts II, and they don their trademark outfits for the rest of the series.
